Der Wiener Künstler Peter The Human Boy“ surft auf einer Indie-Pop-Welle der Leichtigkeit. Mit 70er-Grooves und Ohrwürmern kreiert der selbsternannte Slow-Rocker zusammen mit seinen Bandkollegen einen Sound, mit dem sich laut Pressetext „die Quarterlife-Crisis von der Seele tanzen lässt“. Am 11. Oktober gibt es ein Konzert im Noch Besser Leben. Grund genug, bei Peter The Human Boy nachzufragen
Diese Frage kommt zuerst: Wieso „The Human Boy“?
Ich wollte eigentlich einen coolen Künstlernamen …
Hat es geklappt?
Na ja, haha. Ich glaube, mir war wichtig, mit meinem Namen keine künstlerische Richtung vorzugeben. Als ich in Wien anfing, Wohnzimmerkonzerte mit persönlichen Songs von mir zu spielen, und die meisten im Publikum wussten, dass ich Peter heiße, wurde die Vorstellung, mir einen fiktiven Namen auszudenken, immer absurder. Zu der Zeit hab’ ich gern die Serie „Adventure Time“ geschaut und fand es schön, dass „Finn The Human“ diesen Anhang im Namen hatte. Ohne Kontext wirkt es unnötig, darauf hinzuweisen, dass jemand menschlich ist. Natürlich menschlich, was sonst?
Eben.
Ja, eben diese Frage öffnet für mich aber den Blick auf das große Ganze, das wir in unserer menschengemachten Welt gerne vergessen. Und so wurde es schlussendlich „Peter The Human Boy“ – mein Name, meine Spezies, mein Gender. Funktioniert also auch intergalaktisch, haha.
Im Ankündigungstext steht, dass man sich bei Ihnen die Quarterlife-Crisis von der Seele tanzen kann. Worin besteht oder bestand denn Ihre Quarterlife-Crisis?
Steht das da? Interessant! Also für mich bedeutet Quarterlife-Crisis verzweifelte Identitätssuche. Wer bin ich als erwachsener Mensch? Diese Frage begleitet gefühlt die kompletten 20er. Ich habe das Privileg meiner Jugend ausgekostet, viel herumgeblödelt und wenig ernst genommen. Dann bist du plötzlich erwachsen – und niemand sagt dir, wer du sein wirst, wie du dein Geld verdienst, was richtig und falsch ist, und du merkst, dass deine Eltern immer genauso ahnungslos sind wie du. Daran muss man sich gewöhnen.
Der Sound der 70er Jahre, die musikalische Atmosphäre von nostalgischen Träumen, der Retro-Stil: Ist Ihre Musik ein Gestus, um sich von der Gegenwart mit Digitalisierung, Krieg und gesellschaftliche Spaltung abzuwenden? Welche Funktion erfüllt bei Ihnen die Musik?
Musik war für mich immer ein Zufluchtsort. Genauso wie sie hilft, der Gegenwart zu entfliehen, kann sie aber auch helfen, sich der Realität zu stellen. Ich verarbeite beim Schreiben große und kleine Lektionen meines Lebens. So lerne ich mich selber besser kennen – das ist für mich das schöne Prinzip der Kunst, egal in welcher Form. Es kann dir Komfort geben, aber es kann auch beängstigend sein. Für mich macht es keinen Sinn, etwas mit der Welt zu teilen, was in mir selbst nichts bewegt.
Der Hang zu den Sounds der 70er …
.. ist der Tatsache geschuldet, dass da der Stand der Technik und die Art und Weise, wie Musik produziert wurde, für mich an einem süßen Punkt angekommen sind. Mit Politik und Gesellschaft hat das nichts zu tun. Den Satz „Früher war alles besser“ lass ich nicht gelten. Jede Generation hat ihre eigenen Herausforderungen und wir haben gerade sehr viele, aber ich würde nicht in einer anderen Zeit leben wollen, nur weil da viel Musik entstanden ist, die ich mag.
Auch zum Musiker-Dasein im Retro-Stil gehört heute die digitale Präsentation: Machen Sie das selbst? Fällt es Ihnen leicht oder schwer?
Ich mache mein Social Media und meine Website selbst. Das macht manchmal Spaß und manchmal nicht. Ich hab’ zwar Tiktok, aber auf Instagram bin ich akiver. Ich produziere generell gerne Content, aber oft fehlt mir die Zeit oder das kooperierende Smartphone. Es ist tatsächlich viel Arbeit, wenn du auf Social Media herzeigen willst, was du so machst, und dabei noch Zeit lassen willst, um eben das zu tun, was du so machst. Ich mach mich also nicht verrückt damit, alles zu teilen, an dem ich gerade arbeite.
Was ist Glück?
Wenn ich einen Essensplan für den ganzen Tag habe. Dann hab’ ich Glück und alle, die mir begegnen auch. Der Snickers-Slogan „Du bist nicht du selbst, wenn du hungrig bist“ trifft auf mich zu, es ist erschreckend. Wenn also eine Lebensmittelknappheit ansteht, werde ich jegliche Zivilisation meiden müssen, zum Wohle aller. Meine philosophische WC-Kalenderspruch-Antwort auf die Frage wäre, dass Glück, egal was es ist, nie genug sein kann, weil wir nicht aufhören, danach zu streben und zu suchen. Dabei ist es nicht mehr als das Gegenteil von Unglück und das sollte eigentlich reichen.
Warum sollte man den Auftritt in Leipzig nicht verpassen?
Weil wir motiviert sind und gute Laune mitbringen werden. Wir haben zwei neue Songs im Set. Einer davon heißt „Cico“ und kommt kurz vor Tourstart raus. Den anderen können zumindest alle mitsingen, die die Kussszene im Lift bei „Romeo und Julia“ gesehen haben. Wir bringen jede Menge funky Merch mit und unsere Freunde aus Wien, die surfy Band „Ando“, haben wir in Leipzig auch dabei. Wir freuen uns riesig auf das Konzert und hoffen, dass viele liebe Leute kommen.
