Mit Woods of Birnam kommt eine Artpop-Band aus Dresden auf die bezaubernde Parkbühne Geyserhaus. Im Gepäck ist das neue Album „Dorian“. Grund genug, bei Schauspieler und Sänger Christian Friedel, Jahrgang 1979, nachzufragen
Hallo Christian, sind Sie ein Ossi?
Natürlich, was soll die Frage?! Ich bin in Magdeburg geboren und habe dort 22 Jahre meines Lebens verbracht, dann bin ich zwar kurz mal nach München und Hannover für Studium und Theaterengagements gezogen, lebe aber nun bereits seit 14 Jahren in Dresden. Eigentlich sollte dieses Ossi-Wessi-Thema endlich mal ein Ende haben. Natürlich war die Sozialisierung meiner Eltern eine andere und ich wurde als Ossi erzogen. Bei der jüngeren Generation ist das zum Glück kaum noch Thema, aber gerade meine Generation ist sich der ostdeutschen Wurzeln bewusst und changiert innerlich zwischen zwei politischen Systemen.
Können Sie erzählen, was es mit dem neuen Album „Dorian“ auf sich hat?
Unser neues Album ist als Soundtrack für die Theaterproduktion „Dorian“ unter der Regie von Altmeister Robert Wilson entstanden. Er hat sich bei seiner Inszenierung von Oscar Wildes Roman „Das Bildnis des Dorian Gray“ inspirieren lassen, weitet den Kontext aber aus und streift die Biografien Oscar Wildes und Francis Bacons. Unsere Songs sind Inseln in diesen Gedankenfragmenten und Erinnerungen und gerade in dem Pop-Kontext fassbare Emotionen und Zustände einer multiplen Dorian-Figur. Das klingt jetzt alles sehr verkopft, ist aber sehr sinnliche und atmosphärische Popmusik.
Was erzählt uns Wildes Roman heute?
Der Roman erzählt uns etwas über die Vergänglichkeit der Schönheit und der Kunst, und was davon bleiben wird. In den heutigen Tagen optimieren wir uns mit Hilfe von KI‘s oder Filtern auf sozialen Netzwerken. Wir wollen alle Dorian sein, nicht älter werden, für immer schön. Das Bild das anstelle von Dorian altert, das ist unser wahres Ich, welches wir aber gerne verdrängen wollen. Ein universelles, hochaktuelles Thema also.
Ein Auftritt am Leipziger Geyserhaus. Eine wunderbare Bühne, oder?
Eine tolle Bühne und Atmosphäre. Wir haben dort mal als Support für Enno Bunger gespielt und freuen uns jetzt, unser neues Live-Set präsentieren zu können. Und wir hoffen natürlich auf gutes Wetter. Außerdem haben wir in Leipzig eine treue Fanbase und somit immer wieder großartige Konzertabende in der schönen Messestadt.
Was ist Glück?
Eine komplexe Frage. Vielleicht versuche ich es mal kurz zusammenzufassen, was für mich Glück ist: Eine Aufgabe zu haben, die mich ausfüllt und die ich mit ganz vielen Menschen teilen kann. Und natürlich Gesundheit, Liebe und Familie. Wahrscheinlich sollten diese letztgenannten Attribute an erster Stelle stehen.
Pläne, Ziele, Absichten?
Wir haben vor kurzem ein Künstlerkollektiv gegründet: die „Woods of Birnam Company“. Wir planen nun einige großartige neue Projekte, die Musik, Theater, Film und Kunst miteinander verbinden. Wir komponieren beispielsweise Musik für einen neuen Film und ein neues Theaterstück, außerdem arbeiten wir an einem neuen Großprojekt, mit der Band im Mittelpunkt des Geschehens. Es gibt also viel zu tun und wir freuen uns auf diese verschiedenen spannenden Projekte.
